2012 Moomba Mojo 2.5 In Detail

We received our first 2012 Moomba Mojo 2.5 from Skiers Choice last week.  We were planning on putting it on the water and running it, getting pictures and video of all different wakes with various ballast setups.  Of course the crazy Arkansas weather got on the way with 1-2″ of snow one day and sub freezing temperatures this past week.  Maybe if we get a few warm days we can go through with our original plan.  For now, we decided to take some pictures of some of the notable new features on the new Mojo 2.5 and also point out some things that a new for the 2012 Moombas in general.  So let’s get this going…..

First, I wanted to point out the pure depth of the hull.  This thing is DEEP!!!

Next is the transom hook/step.  Since the hull is so deep, this will help kids or shorter people be able to climb into the boat from the swim platform.

Wide Bow design

Wide bow seating

Deep seating area

Big seating area

Swivel drivers seat!

Deep Cooler.  Biggest cooler I’ve seen in a boat.

Snap out carpet

Rubber under ballast bags.  Also note how deep these compartments are.  I am 5’10” and when standing in this compartment, the top nearly hits me at my waist.

New dash

Ballast switches on dash

New Battery location.  More storage behind the OB seat.

Deep glovebox

Surf Platform vs normal platform

OZ Tower with accessories.  We did fold the tower with all accessories installed.  When folded, the tallast part of the tower was approximately 90″.  This is on the standard trailer and we did not play with adjusting the tongue up or down.

New vinyl and textures

Why our hulls and wakes are better.

As some of you know, I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Physics.  When new hulls are released, both on our brands of boats and our competition, the first thing I do is crawl underneath the boat to see what is going on.  Why a wakeboard boat rides the way it does and why it produces the wake it does is all hydrodynamics.  Unless you are familiar with the laws of hydrodynamics, the lines and curves on the bottom of the boat  may not mean much to you.  That is what I am here for, to explain why according the the laws of Physics, our hulls and wakes are scientifically proven to be better.

Let’s start with what makes a boat hull ride the way it does.  There are many key features on a hull that make a wakeboard boat perform; these include strakes, pockets, keels, chines, hooks, wakeplate, cavitation plates, etc.  The placement of all of these elements can make a boat ride dramatically different, therefore, causing the wakes to be different.

There are a few key features that the boats we sell have that make them the superior boat on the water.  Starting at the front of the boat, you want this section to be very deep to cut through choppy water and to help provide better tracking.  Many I/O runabouts have very deep V hulls, such as Sea Ray and Cobalt, that make them ride very well in rough water.  Companies such as these, unfortunately, extended the V all the way towards the back of the boat and destroys the wake.  Take a look at Supra’s deep V keel, the deepest V in the industry.

Notice that a big portion of the keel is under the straight black line.  This give this boat a very good rough water ride.

From there, you have the middle section of the hull.  There is a lot of techincal stuff that takes place here so I won’t spend too much time on it.  Basically, this is where you want the hull to start flattening out to start forming the wake.

This takes us to the back 1/3 of the hull.  According to the laws of hydrodynamics, when water travles up a surface it creates natural suction. If it travels down a surface, it gives the boat lift.  Lift is NOT what you want on a wakeboard boat.  It is however what you want on a ski hull. Lift produces a small and rounded wake.

Take a look at this Tige  hull:

Notice the dramatic slope up at the last 1/3 of the hull.  This is going to give this hull suction and produce a bigger wake easier.  Some wakeboard hulls have little to no slope and suprisingly, some even have a “hook” at the end.

Take a look at these pictures of popular wakeboard boats.  These pictures are taken directly from the company’s website so no alterations have been made.  The black or green line was drawn from the center most tracking fin to show a straight line.  Suprisingly, some of these “flagship” wakeboard boats didn’t even have tracking fins so we did the best we could with the starting point of the straight line.

From the pictures, you will see what Moomba, Supra, and Tige have the most deep V under the straight line in the keel and the most upward slope in the last 1/3.  That proves that our boat will have the best ride and naturally produce the biggest and best wakes.  You will clearly see that boats that might not give you the best rough water ride and must use other means from producing a wake.

Sringtime is Near!

Hello Everyone, we are on the spring time count down. For all you hard core riders, water time starts in a month. For the rest of you guys, not to long after that. We are just wanting to remind all of you that we have picked up O’neill wetsuits and heater shirts so this dramatically helps getting all of us out on the water soon!! We should be getting our O’neill in around the first part of March!! So be ready to get yours before they are all gone!! Hope to see you guys soon out on the water riding and having a good time!! Thanks

1st in Market Share!!!

It was just announced that Skiers Choice boats are first in market share for the state of Arkansas!  That means more Skiers Choice boats (Supra and Moomba) were sold in the state than any other inboard boat.

Price point boats.

With the addition of a few price point boats to the market, I feel it important to point out what Moomba is, was, and always will be.

Moomba has over 20 years of proven performance, construction quality, wake quality, and resale value!!!  There is no settling with Moomba…..full boats with full windshields, complete instrumentation, matching style lines, many standard features, and a complete line of 20′-23′ boats that you know will be worth something when you go to sell it.

Construction of a Moomba is exactly like it’s high end sister company Supra.  Moomba hulls are currently constructed on the exact same production line as Supra.  Literally, the workers do not even know which boat they are building until it comes time to put in options and interiors.  The difference is Moomba keeps it simple.  Moomba gives you everything that a rider needs: a tower, ballast, speed control, and a tournament quality wake.  No frills, no extras, just a tournament boat you can depend on at a great price.

So when looking at a price point boat, remember to check out a Moomba.  PROVEN BOATS WITH A PROVEN VALUE.

Vapor Lock Advisory

We have started to get a few calls about Vapor Lock this year with the weather already being so hot and humid.  We wanted to put something together to help everybody out to hopefully prevent vapor lock from happening; and if it does happen, what to do to get you going on the water again.

To start, vapor lock is being caused by the ethanol in gasoline.  It IS NOT a Moomba, Supra, or Indmar issue.  We have seen vapor lock happen on every type of of the major inboard brands plus, a few I/O’s, and even a few outboards.

Here are a few things to prevent vapor lock from happening:

  • Try to get gasoline from a station that does not have ethanol in their gas.  DO NOT get gas from a marina on the water.
  • Keep your fuel filter changed regularly.  For an Indmar engine, that should be every 40-50 hours.
  • Run the Blue Stabil that fights against ethanol.
  • Run your blower continually.
  • If you are running your engine hard for a while and then decide to sit and swim or rest for a while, be sure to open your engine hatch to let your engine cool down.

If vapor lock were to happen, here are a few steps to take to get you running again:

  • Immediately open the engine hatch and turn on your blower so that your engine compartment can air out.  After the engine cools down (approx 30 minutes), your boat should start again.
  • To speed up the process, you can pour a few cups of water directly on the fuel filter (see owners manual for location) and along the fuel lines. You can also dip a towel in the water and hold it against the fuel pump (see owners manual for location).  The colder the water, the better.  After around 2-5 minutes, the engine should start.

Parks Clinic/Demo Information

We are waiting to see exactly what time Parks will arrive.  I will post as soon as I know.

We will have our tents with Ronix equipment ready to demo on Hamilton on the dock behind Cajun Boilers, just down the road from our shop. We will be set up from 10:30 until around 4:00, then will go back to the shop for an hour or so.  We will take a lunch break 12:30-1:30 there at Cajun’s.  There is no cost for the demo/clinic but you will need to bring money for lunch if you want to eat.

There are no set times for the demo/clinic, just show up and ride as long and as often as you want.  Anybody is welcome to hang out all day or come and go as you please.

Call or email if you have questions.

Top 10 Reasons to buy an Inboard over an I/O.

So obviously we are an inboard only boat dealership and believe that just about every boat owner should buy an inboard over any of the inboard/outboards on the market.  Of course there are those customers who are wanting a fishing boat, a slow riding pontoon boat, or a big 25 foot plus cabin boat……we are not talking to you.  Anyone out there wanting a 20’-24’ boat for cruising, skiing, tubing, or wakeboarding should strongly be considering an inboard boat.  We have actually found out that many do not look at inboards because they have either been fed wrong information or simply that they do not know much about them.  So we have put together the top 10 reasons why a person should buy an inboard (in no particular order).

  1.  Resale Value.  Inboards hold their value MUCH better than any other type of boat.  Look at NADA.com for proof.
  2. Construction.  Inboards are some of the best constructed boats on the market.  Most use 100% fiberglass and still hand lay their hulls.  This is the most consistent way to build a boat and eliminates all wood.
  3. Handling.  All you are steering with an inboard is a rudder, not a big outdrive.  One finger steering literally can effortlessly spin you around 180 degrees.
  4. The wake.  That’s what these boats are made for so inboards will give you the best wake possible for whatever sport you choose to do.  This makes your sport much safer and easier to do.
  5. Safety.  The prop is under the boat instead of hanging off the back of the boat.  With the advanced handling, the driver can also get back to the rider faster.
  6. Standard features.  Most inboards come standard with everything that you would want.  Towers, ballast, cruise control, board racks, and much more.
  7. Service and Maintenance.  Inboards are typically easier to work on, therefore less expensive to maintain.
  8. Cool Factor.  Let’s face it… inboards look a million times better than any I/O.
  9. Warranty.  Inboards use the best materials available and back it with the best warranties.
  10. Performance. Inboards handle like a sports car on the water.  Quicker turns, faster planning times, better speed control all contributing to being more fuel efficient.

So if you are in the market for a boat, you should at least consider an inboard.  Whether you are into water sports or not, chances are that a tube, ski, or wakeboard will pulled behind the boat during it’s lifetime.  Why not have a boat designed for it, plus have the advantages of an all around smarter purchase?

Remember, you can turn a ski or wakeboard boat into a cruising boat but you can’t turn a cruising boat into a ski or wakeboard boat.

2010 Wake Games Results

From Alliancewake.com:

http://www.alliancewake.com/wake/2010-nautique-wake-games/

Didn’t have the chance to make out to this year’s Nautique Wake Games? Well do not worry here is a video that will make you feel like you were there!

We start the video out with a little wakeskate action, where Reed Hansen will beat out Stu Shinn for 1st place. Brian Grubb takes home 3rd, and Brandon Thomas rounds out the final heat in 4th place.

Then as the day goes on Jr. Pro Men take to the water and go huge! Canadian Raph Derome beats the rest of the guys for 1st place looking really comfortable out there. West Coaster Jacob Valdez beats out East Coasters Daniel Powers and Freddy Wayne for 2nd place.

The Pro Women’s final was a 6 woman heat full of some of the sport’s top riders. Dallas Friday has been working hard all winter training and it payed off for her, taking 1st place. Nicola Butler would manage to beat out fellow Oakley team rider Amber Wing to take 2nd.

Pro Men’s Final was probably the most unexpected makeup of the day. Rookie Bob Soven would beat out Rusty Malinoski and brother Phillip Soven for a spot in the finals. Harley Clifford was riding great all day and was able to beat out Bob for 1st place. Bob would take home second place with JD Webb following right behind him in 3rd. Josh Palma’s first pro final ever would put him in 4th place above fellow Hyperlite team member Jimmy Lariche. It was one of the hottest days in Florida this year and one of the hottest days on the water all weekend.

Shop and Wake industry updates

Sorry it’s been a while since the last blog post.  We have been VERY busy here the past few weeks.  Service is absolutely insane and boat sales are good!!!

On to what is new:

As many of you may have seen, we have decided to pick up the RZ line of Tige Boats!  The RZ series comes in a 22′ and 24′ and gives a wakeboarder everything they could dream of while having some very aggressive styling.  First boat should be on lot around May 15th.

Supra’s pro rider Trevor Hansen landed the first wake to wake (non double up) double invert a couple of days ago.  You can see the footage of the w2w double backroll on chad sharpe’s blog, funwhenwet.com.

Ronix and Tige’s team rider, Adam Errington landed his first toeside 1080 just yesterday.  Congrats Adam and welcome to the 1080 club!!!

Our demo boat is currently being wrapped as I type this.  Look for pictures later this week!!!!
